Loved and connected so deeply to this - I sent you a v long email, but not sure if you have that feature enabled or not. Too many thoughts for a comment box!
Thank you so much for this kind response! I actually didn't have that feature enabled—thanks for letting me know. Would it be possible for you to resend?
The imagery of the juice from your upbringing was perfectly nostalgic. I grew up with Juicy Juice at my house and Tang at my Granny's house - they never swapped places lol.
I really like the idea of connecting juice to creativity too. Perhaps you're familiar with the Bruce Lee quote about being like water and being formless, shapeless and adaptable. I like the juice one for creativity because like juice there are so many ways to do it and depending on how you do it, it'll dictate who is drawn to it. Also, it's even better when you collab with people and see something brand new come to life (juices with multiple fruit flavors) This analogy just worked really well for me!
I love talking about where creativity comes from! Thank you for the open-ended insight into your process.
I don’t yet make a living from my original content, so I don’t know what it’s like to have to continually produce something new AND original. But my creative process for my weekend performances absolutely requires what I call “blank canvas space,” where I take a break from learning or practicing repertoire, and I just sit in silence, or take a walk (no headphones). Sometimes I get new ideas and sometimes it’s just an ear break, but either way it’s absolutely integral to my ability to give that “juice,” week in and week out.
Totally, something I end up writing about a lot! My favourite way of looking at it is a quote from the Artist’s Way I have above my desk: “Great Creator, you take care of the quality, I’ll take care of the quantity.” Which reminds I have to be the one actively showing up to receive. But once I’m there I need to surrender.
Sometimes you gotta drink some juice to have more juice
