Soundtracks are super nostalgic for me because they just don't make 'em like they used to. Something related to licensing norms having changed? I am particularly attached to the City of Angels and the Austin Powers Spy Who Shagged me soundtracks. Both have serious vibes and stand alone from the movies.

"I Want to Break Free by Queen." I think of a 1950s typeface, maybe old school Kitchenaid or the typeface on an old mixer. In the video, Freddie is in drag cleaning the house. I think of seafoam and sold Mid-Century Modern wide typeface.

"Music is the most direct conduit to nostalgia." Of the many fascinating observations presented in the above treatise, that statement intrigued me most.

Here is an example from music of a different genre:

"Caledonia" is a modern Scottish folk ballad. Dougie MacLean wrote the song while on tour with his band in 1977.

One night, after they'd played for a crowd in Brittany, France. MacLean walked down to the beach, sat down in the sand, and within ten minutes the song came to him. He then walked back to the hostel where the band was staying. After playing the song for his bandmates they all became so homesick they cancelled the rest of the tour and returned home the next morning.

Part of the chorus is, "Caledonia, you're calling me, and now I'm going home."

Oh, the power of music. And nostalgia.
